Alright, so surprise surprise, I'm also an aspiring songwriter. I use Finale Songwriter, and I tend to vary in style. Most of the songs I write have an emphasis on melody, since that's the sort of thing I like in music. I uploaded these songs through Uploader.com, but if there are any better places to upload them, please tell me (Or, if you want, you can access most of these songs in
this flash I made and labored on for youse guys). Here are a few I've written. There's much more, and none of these are necessarily finished, but here they are the same:
All I WantThis is very klezmer (Jewish) inspired, it's an epic about a criminal looking to God for a second chance in life. Kinda upbeat for a serious subject, I know. Here are the lyrics (If you are able to connect it to the melody- if you can, I applaud you!):
REFRAIN
All I want
Is another life to live.
All I want
Is another chance to give
All that I want
Is to prove the good I did.
Can you please help me
Find the love inside of me?
All I want
Is to tell her that I care.
All I want
Is to tell her I'll be there
All that I want
Is to show the love I bear
Father, please help me,
'Cause that is all I want!
CHORUS
God only knows
All that I want.
God only knows
All that I see.
God only knows
All that I feel,
'cuz who would care?
For a new life
For a new chance;
That is all I want!
REFRAIN
All I want
Is my son to shed no tear.
All I want
Is to shield my son from fear.
All that I want
Is to show him I'll be near.
Can you please help
Find the good inside of me?
All I want
Is to walk on holy cloud.
All I want
Is to see my Father proud.
All that I want
Is a chance to say aloud:
"Father, I'm worthy!"
'Cause that is all I want
CHORUS
Also,
Here's a video of me performing it at a camp one night/(Keep in mind that though the song deals with religion, I'm not religious myself. I just wrote it in the perspective of a character
CarolineThis is a jazz/blues-inspired song about someone singing about a lost love that he killed after witnessing an affair. Not too original, I know, but I like it. Here are the lyrics:
You were singin’ at a bar,
Yeah, you were singin’ some sweet tune;
With that sultry voice of yours,
You know you’ll always fill the room.
I recall that’s where we met,
Way back in 1999;
You gave me your business card
And said “My name is Caroline”.
Oh, yes
My heart would pound
When you came into my view;
And Oh, the sound
When I thought you’d love me too!
I was happy, goin’ mad,
And as I’d pour a glass of wine,
I would tell all of my friends
“I met a gal named Caroline”.
You had fin’lly hit it big
When I hit it big with you,
You would tour across the Apple,
But with me you’re singing to;
We were famous, we were stars.
Yeah, we lit up the Great White Way,
And though you had me to thank,
I’d say “No, baby, it’s okay;
“~You see,~
“If I’m not paid
A penny when we’re through,
I’d still have made
My life complete with you.”
So we’d tour across the venue
As the world would wait in line,
But at ev’ry night in bed, it was
Just me and Caroline.
Late one night, at our motel,
Our manager, I heard him yell.
I went inside, and well, I saw
You down on him in bed!
Oh,
I blacked out to sounds of cries,
Though visions flew across my eyes
And when I woke, to my surprise,
The both of you were dead.
My heart would pound
When you came into my view;
And Oh, the sound
When I thought you’d love me too!
Now I’m lonely, goin’ mad,
And as I chug a glass of wine,
I still miss the days when you were mine,
My Lovely Caroline.
La Tierra de la Tres SolesA spanish ballad I wrote. No lyrics, just melodic imagery. The title means "The Land of the Two Suns".
High Class JoesAn upbeat song I wrote for some type of musical. The biggest idea I had in my head was an adaptation of Some Like it Hot (It was apparently done already a long time ago, but whatever). No lyrics here, as I'm not even sure if that'll be the name of the song in the end. Obviously, adapting a movie will take a lot of money, so that'll definitely have to wait. The song would've been about the two leads singing about their woes from the beginning of the film.
David Left HomeOne of my latest songs, it's about a boy who leaves home because he is unloved by his parents. I'm still working on the lyrics for this one, originally, it was going to be about love during the end of the world. Tell me which idea sounds better.
